Prompt for January 28, 2016

Complete the short story/flash fiction, that has the following opening:

The walk from the back of the courtroom to the witness stand seemed to last forever, even though Michelle knew that it was only going to take less than ten seconds. Ten seconds of being the centre of attention as everyone looked at her, examined her, made up their own minds as to whether or not she was trustworthy. She walked calmly, slowly, putting one foot in front of the other and breathing deeply. Her shoes, low heeled dress shoes, sounded loud on the wooden floor.

She almost paused as she passed by the table where the defence sat. She almost looked at him. Richard Dupuis. The accused. Her attacker. But she didn’t pause, she didn’t falter. Her back, ramrod straight, carried her to the witness stand where she sat, smoothing out the imperceptible wrinkles in her business suit.

“Your honour, as the witness has already been sworn in on a separate occasion I would like to proceed with the questioning.”

“Go ahead council.”

“Ms. Dupuis, can you identify the in the courtroom the man who attacked you?”
