Prompt for February 8, 2016

Complete the short story/flash fiction, that has the following opening:

The roses were a deep red, almost a blood red, and as they lay on the snow white bedspread the contrast was sharp and powerful. The dozen roses, spread across the mattress seemed so out of place that your eyes were immediately drawn to them. At least, his were and he hoped that Crystal would be drawn to them as well.

Beside the bed were two large candles, the eight-hour type of candles, and they were glowing brightly having just been lit. He turned off the light in the bedroom and the candles gave a warm glow to the room and while the roses did not stand out as much in the yellowish light thrown off by the candles he was still satisfied with their impact.

He opened up the bag of rose petals at his hip and liberally spread them in a path from the foot of the bed, out the door, down the hallway and to the front door of the two bedroom apartment. While he still had rose petals in the bag he thought he would save them for another special event. With one last look around the apartment, he opened the front door, being careful not to disturb the flowers, and closed it behind him, locking it with his key. He then took off his latex gloves, balled them up and stuffed them in his pocket. It wouldn’t be as effective if he left his finger prints behind.
