Complete the short story/flash fiction, that has the following opening:
(This is the other side of the mirror of yesterday’s intro.)
When he saw her in the crowd he immediately began to sweat. Stephen came to the San Diego Comic Con to relax and this year was no exception. Indeed, this year he needed to relax even more because of the advances of a young woman he had met in Europe just a few weeks prior. Adira Simmons, a beautiful self-made business woman who owned a couple of premium coffee shops in a city dominated by Starbucks. She was charming, intelligent, had a wonderful sense of humour and, in all respects, seemed like the perfect woman.
Which was why he couldn’t let her come close. He couldn’t let her in, couldn’t share his life, his dreams, his desires with her because of what it would mean. He had to protect her and the only way he knew how to do that was to keep her at arms length.
But when he saw her across the lobby he knew that his wall was crumbling. If he left her alone he felt that he would die and yet if he let her in she could die. He had to be strong, he had to protect her at all costs, he had to ignore his desire for this woman who made him ache for her touch.
