Prompt for March 17, 2016

Complete the short story/flash fiction, that has the following opening:

The hood of the sweater hung over Sasha’s head and covered her eyes. Natasha, her oldest and best friend, found the covering up to be rather odd as Sasha had always been an outgoing person who savoured the attention. Hiding her face was so out of character that Natasha just stared at her over the small coffee shop tabletop. Sasha had called her, saying that she needed to meet, but now that they were together the words weren’t flowing. When she heard the quiet sobbing it struck her like a knife through the heart.

Sasha, what’s wrong?” When the sobbing only intensified she reached over and pushed back the sweater hood. Her friend, usually the poster child for how women thought they wanted to look, seemed defeated, with her eyes red from the crying. As Sasha turned her head the problem reared its ugly head. Sasha’s right eye was partially closed as a fresh bruise, still predominantly red, covered her upper cheek.

At Natasha’s quick intake Sasha covered up with her hood once more and reached out to her friend. “It’s going to be okay, Nattie, I’m leaving him. That’s why I called you. I need some place to stay for a few nights. I don’t want to go home right now. I can’t go home while he’s there. I need a friend.”

Natasha saw the sorrow and the pain and held Sasha’s hand tightly. “You can stay with me for however long you need Sasha. And if that bastard ever shows his face I’ll do to him what he did to you.”
