Complete the short story/flash fiction, that has the following opening:
The room was empty, the police and crime scene investigations unit had left an hour ago, leaving the room in a similar state to how they had found it. Rachel Kruger let herself in with the digital key that she had been given by the hotel manager. She left the police tape criss crossing the door and stepped through the opening into the now deserted suite. Quickly looking around to make sure that it was indeed as deserted as it appeared to be.
She wasn’t here in an official capacity, the police never knew about her accessing crime scenes because if they did she would probably end up in jail. No, she did this for friends and loved ones, investigating accidents and murders to see if she could help. In this case, the hotel manager, her cousin Derek, wanted her to take a look with her talents to see if she could help. One of his customers died and he wanted justice for them.
She knelt by the pool of blood, still tacky, that lay in the center of the carpet. Removing the gloves that always covered her hands she held them motionless above the carpet, letting her mind open up.
“You won’t find anything,” said a voice from the far side of the room. A voice hauntingly familiar. Rachel stopped and stood up. The room was supposed to be empty. She had checked but had apparently made a mistake. She slowly starting backing her way to the door, ready to open it and run.
“No, don’t leave”, said the same voice from behind her. Rachel stopped moving, she stopped breathing. It wasn’t possible, they couldn’t have gotten behind her unless … She turned to see who it was and saw the same sea green eyes that she had woken up next to for almost five years.
“Yes, Rachel, it’s me.”
“What are you doing here? You died three years ago, you left me alone, Diane, you left me alone.”
“I’m sorry, Rachel. I didn’t want to inflict any more pain on you but there’s something you need to know. The man that did this, the main that killed her is the same man that murdered me. And he’s going after you next.”
